Crownwell School is seeking a compassionate and experienced Inclusion & Well-being Lead to fulfill the combined role of SENDCO, PSHE Lead, and Pastoral Coordinator.
In this pivotal non-teaching (or reduced timetable) role, you will act as the champion for our students’ emotional health and learning needs. You will oversee the provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), design our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum, and lead our pastoral care initiatives.
This role requires a leader who understands that academic success is impossible without emotional security and accessible learning.
A Note on Experience:
We have a strong preference for retired SENDCOs or Heads of Year because we believe your vast experience in navigating complex student needs is a treasure that should be shared. We offer flexible part-time schedules that allow you to support students and mentor staff without the physical and administrative burnout often associated with onsite inclusion roles.
Responsibilities:
As SENDCO:
- Strategic Oversight: Maintain the SEND register and oversee the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or student support plans.
- Teacher Support: Advise teaching staff on differentiating online lessons and using accessibility tools (e.g., speech-to-text, screen readers) to support neurodiverse learners.
- Parent Liaison: Conduct regular video meetings with parents to review progress and discuss support strategies.
As Pastoral & PSHE Coordinator:
- Curriculum Design: oversee the PSHE / RSE curriculum across Key Stages 1–5, with a specific focus on Digital Citizenship and Online Safety.
- Student Well-being: Act as the primary contact for student welfare concerns, conducting 1:1 online “check-ins” for vulnerable students.
- Behavior & Attendance: Monitor attendance and engagement data to identify students who may be struggling or disengaging.
- Transition: Support students moving between Key Stages (e.g., Primary to Secondary) to ensure a smooth emotional transition.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Qualification: Bachelor of Education (BEd) OR BA/BSc degree and/or PGCE (Primary). (QTS/QTLS) is mandatory.
- Certification: The National Award for SEN Co-ordination (NASENCO) is highly desirable, or significant equivalent experience.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years teaching, with substantial experience in a pastoral leadership role (Head of Year) or SEND department.
- Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current PSHE statutory guidance.
- Skills: High level of emotional intelligence, discretion, and the ability to build rapport through a screen.
Desirable:
- Mental Health First Aid certification.
- Experience supporting students with ASD, ADHD, or Dyslexia in a digital environment.
- Experience with EAL (English as an Additional Language) students, given our international cohort.
